Lemon balm is a plant species from the Melissa genus and the Lamiaceae family. Native to the eastern Mediterranean region, lemon balm is very popular both as a herb for infusions and as a spice for cooking. Its leaves contain essential oils such as citronellal, geranial, geraniol and neral, which give the plant its distinctive lemon scent.
